One great song, one sad life

I wasn't an Amy Winehouse fan. But I thought her one hit single was pretty good, if not a blatant cry for help that was answered with Grammy nominations instead of interventions. But then, I'm sure her family and friends tried to get her help. If I've learned anything from TLC's "Intervention" it's that you can't force an addict to get clean. They have to want it.

No cause of death has been determined just yet. But I'm sure we all have an idea. And it made me think about the 27 Club. Winehouse just joined it today. Hopefully she won't be listed in the same breath as Joplin, Morrison or Cobain. But her age, occupational choice and modicum of fame will surely mean she'll make the roster.

Unfamiliar with the 27 club? Read here.

Here's an article on Winehouse's death, too.

  1. I think it is sad that she passed away. We will wait and find out how she passed away. If it was a drug overdose, we may never really know if it was an accidental overdose or if she died by suicide. It is sad.

I know from what I read in the media that her friends and family tried to help her. I am sure she was dealing with depression too. The combination of depression and drugs equals a dual diagnosis of an underlying psychological disorder and chemical dependency.

I can't say for sure if she was truly depressed. I haven't followed her story. I am just assuming that if someone who drinks excessively and takes in lots of drugs, that they can't be happy. Maybe she was happy at times. Some people escape from whatever they are running from through drugs. I think it is sad.

When you think about what is going on in the REAL WORLD of today with even the economy and hard times, I honestly think we will see an increase of people feeling depressed (getting diagnosed with depression) and I think we probably will also see an increase of suicide. People are going through hard times. Some are suffering in silence. People are hurting.

I know people will say that she chose to drink and do drugs, but I am sure she also had people in her life that were enablers too. It is hard for some people to kick their addictions because when they leave treatment, they either go back to the same friends who are doing drugs too or they end up isolating from their friends and family and self-medicating at home.

I feel sad for her family and friends. Even though she had problems (we all have problems) and even though she was drinking and doing drugs (a lot people turn to something: if it is not drugs, it may be other addictions); we all breathing human beings. We are not perfect. No one is perfect.

We all make mistakes. We sometimes make bad choices. We all have flaws. We are not perfect. Amy Winehouse was not perfect. She was human. She ended up dying way too soon. She was only 27 years old. She had her whole life ahead of her. It is sad. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
